I have recently spent time implementing the iPhone template on my site: www.mikesel.info however, I have now started implementing the other templates, and some of my visitors using Nokia devices are all reporting the same issue:

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'Error in DB RIS Query: Illegal mix of collations (latin1_swedish_ci.IMPLICIT) and (latin1_general_ci.IMPLICIT) for operation '='. Any ideas?

Hi,

Thanks for reporting. This might be an issue of MySQL's. Which version are you running? If possible you could try updating your MySQL.

If you search for "Illegal mix of collations" on google there are some suggested fixes.

Here's my version info:

Apache Version: 1.3.41
Perl Version: 5.8.8 (view modules)
PHP Version: 5.2.9
MySQL Version: 5.0.87-community-log

Its a hosted service, so I doubt they will upgrade the version just for me.

Ill have a quick google, and post back my findings.

Sorted it (I think) checked the table structure of the terawurfl_nokia table. As the message said, two of the fields had swedish collation, the others had latin.

I changed the collation using phpMyAdmin and all seems fine now.

I don't have a nokia to test it with mind you...

Do you know of a decent emulator? Preferably web based, as I am running a Mac.

That's good to hear.

Firefox User Agent switcher is good for quick testing with the browser.

Which is when I notice then 'User agent' option in my Safari browser.. Only been using it for 6 months. Never noticed that before
