I have installed mobile joomla on a site made and installed on my localhost. when i use the www.opera.com/mobile/ to test it i get an error message re the url....

is there another way i can view the site on my pc to edit and adapt?

Easily done. I use firefox for all my web dev needs: firebug for css, firesizer to change window size, and now user agent switcher. User agent switcher allows for firefox's agent to become anything including mobile devices. So change the user agent to say android or iphone then load the page, if its in its mobile template your mobile site works!
